Amol Karnick
President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) @KA Imaging Inc.
Amol is a seasoned executive in the medical device industry. His experience covers the whole spectrum; from start-ups (Ultrasonix, Sentinelle Medical, Ventripoint) to large OEMs (GE Healthcare). Entering into the profession with a Bachelors in Engineering from the University of Waterloo and a Masters in Electrical Engineering from McGill, Amol spent 20 years in the medical imaging space to become a leader of multidisciplinary teams (sales, engineering and operations). Amol is now poised to steer KA Imaging into a position of global leadership.
Laurent Pelissier
CEO @Clarius, Inc.
Laurent Pelissier is an entrepreneur/engineer with a focus on creating value improving people's health with technology. He founded Ultrasonix and Clarius and holds 70+ assigned patents. “We had three clear goals when we set out to develop Clarius: to deliver an ultra-portable system for medical professionals that does not compromise on image quality; to remove the cords that get in the way, and to make sure the Clarius App offers the flexibility to work reliably with both iOS and Android smart devices,”
Russell Haley
Senior Software Engineer @StarFish Medical
Russell Haley is a software and IT veteran with over 20 years of start-up experience designing IoT systems that collect data through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and MICS (implantable) radios and store vital records in the cloud. Russell has written software to collect data from oceanographic buoys, financial institutions, passenger trains and most recently, medical devices. Not only does Russell enjoy designing data collection systems and writing code, he also enjoys the complexities of how technical choices affect medical device design and business decisions.
Scott Phillips
Founder and CEO @StarFish Medical
Scott holds a degree in Engineering Physics from the University of British Columbia. Prior to starting StarFish, he worked in diverse areas such as lithium battery development and manufacturing, UV spectroscopy instrumentation and hi-fi audio speakers. Under his leadership StarFish has grown into a diverse professional organization with clients around the world and 100% focus on medical devices. Scott is a Chair of the LifeSciences British Columbia board, member of the 2022 VIATEC Board of Directors, Fellow of The Canadian Academy of Engineering, winner of the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ 2017 Pacific Awards Technology category, 2017 recipient of the VIATEC Technology Champion award, and volunteers with Junior Achievement, Entrepreneurs Organization, and University of British Columbia.
